About me
I currently serve as a District Court Judge for Iredell and Alexander Counties. My career in the legal system spans more than four decades and includes service as a judge, prosecutor, mediator, and practicing attorney.
Throughout my career, I have approached this work with seriousness, preparation, and respect for the law. Serving as a judge is a responsibility that requires discipline, fairness, and a steady commitment to applying the law as written.
Why I Serve
I serve because strong courts are essential to strong communities.
The judicial system works best when judges are prepared, present, and focused on doing the job carefully and correctly. Every case represents real people and real consequences, and the responsibility of the court is to ensure each matter is handled with attention, fairness, and respect for the law.
I believe service on the bench is not about personal views or politics. It is about stewardship — maintaining trust in the judicial process and ensuring the law is applied consistently for everyone who comes before the court.
Judicial Philosophy
My approach to the bench is grounded in a few clear principles.
I believe the law must be followed as written and applied consistently. Judges are not policymakers, and the courtroom is not a place for personal agendas or assumptions. Decisions must be based on facts, evidence, and the law.
Accountability matters. The justice system exists to protect the public, maintain order, and ensure responsibility under the law. Being fair does not mean being lenient. It means applying the law carefully and without favoritism so outcomes are lawful and appropriate.
Judicial restraint is not weakness. It is the discipline required to make thoughtful, measured decisions grounded in the law rather than emotion or outside pressure.
I also believe deeply in due process. Listening carefully to every case is essential to reaching the correct legal outcome and ensuring that every individual receives a fair hearing.
Experience & Background
My legal career has included service in nearly every role within the District Court system.
I have served as a District Court Judge presiding over criminal, civil, juvenile, and family court matters. Earlier in my career, I served as an Assistant District Attorney, representing the State and handling cases involving public safety and accountability.
In addition to my work on the bench and as a prosecutor, I spent many years in private legal practice and as a certified mediator. That experience provided a broad perspective on how legal decisions affect individuals, families, and businesses, and it strengthened my ability to evaluate cases thoroughly and fairly.
This combination of judicial, prosecutorial, and legal experience allows me to approach each case prepared, disciplined, and focused on applying the law correctly.
